The Linux Users Group at The University of Texas at Dallas exists to promote and support the use of Linux and other free, libre, and open source software on The University of Texas at Dallas campus. The group shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the Office of Student Development.
To become and remain a voting member, an individual must:
After meeting the above requirements, a member shall become accredited by contacting the secretary and asking to join the group. The member's name will be posted upon the member's list, and his membership shall last until the beginning of the next school year. At that time, if the member does not attend meetings or recontact the secretary, he shall be dropped from the member's list.
Membership shall be open to all eligible individuals regardless of sex, race, color, national origin, religion, age, veteran status, disability, or sexual orientation.
The President is ultimately responsible to perform all the work necessary for the group, except those responsibilities specifically assigned to others. The President (or a duly designated representative) shall preside over all meetings of the group.

The tasks of managing the group's finances and holdings votes can not be delegated.
All officers are required to be members of the organization.
There shall also be an Adviser, who shall meet the current Student Development criteria for Student Organization Adviser. The Adviser must be a member of The University of Texas at Dallas faculty or staff.
Together, the Officers and the Adviser shall make up the Council, which has final say over any and all group matters and disputes. The Council shall define a policy that is charged with determining acceptable membership criteria, in addition to what is already listed in the constitution.
The secretary shall hold regular elections during one of the regular meetings in March.
The votes shall be tallied and the result shall come into effect two weeks after the results are tallied. In the case of a tie, the adviser shall break it in whatever fashion he deems fit.
An election will be called in the event that an office becomes vacant more than two weeks before the position would have expired.
All voting members shall be eligible for office.
Any voting member may propose an amendment to the constitution. If the amendment is seconded, and at least two-thirds of the membership vote to support the amendment, the Constitution shall be duly amended.
The group shall hold elections in April, 2009 to fill the officer positions for the 2009-2010 school year. Charter members of the group will not be required to notify the secretary of their intention to stay members after the 2008-2009 school year. After regular elections are held in March, 2010, this section shall be automatically dropped from the constitution and all special privileges granted within are nullified.
